Dear Getaway Championship Series Sailors, Fans & Spectators,

The last race on the last day of 2015 got underway with a record fleet on the water with 7 boats.  Due to congestion at the PFYC marina because of the Christmas holidays and safety concerns sailing all 7 getaways into the marina the skippers briefing and start was held in Tali Marina Beach.

Gusty conditions from 10-15kts NE challenged the fleet once again with two windward-leeward races and one point to point race.  Race 1 saw several lead changes with Denise/Monchu first off the start line, then Eddie/Lita round the first mark, for Jojo/Santi round the leeward gate first and for Eddie/Lita to regain the lead to the finish. Paolo/Roman sailing together for the first time came in second.  A wind shift during the start of the 2nd windward-leeward saw most of the fleet not able to cross the line from the committee boat end with Jojo/Santi never the less first off the line and win the race from start to finish.  The 3rd race took the fleet to Terrazas and Twin Island saw the fleet split the start from both ends of the line.

A port & starboard incident on line between Jojo and Jose put them both behind the fleet on the race to the first mark lead by Eddie.  Jojo was able to recover 5 position on way to the first mark was second to Eddie rounding the 2nd mark in Terrazas followed closely by the remaining fleet.  With shifty winds on the run to Twin Island and a beat back to finish line tested the patience and technical skills of the crew with most of the fleet behind eddie in close formation with several exciting position changes. Eddie/Lita crossed the line followed by Philip/Jaime who risked sailing a lower line to Tali cliffs with Paolo/Roman on 3rd taking the outside line and leaving the group taking the middle course to battle for 4th, 5th & 6th places and all finish within 20 seconds of each other.

With 2 races completed of the 7 race series, there has been positive comments that the racing is more competitive with more entires and guest Hobie 16 sailors under the new format offering everyone a chance to complete in the 3 divisions.  The following race will be held together with the annual PFYC Regatta on January 30-31.
